El Juramento

Zarzuela in three acts

Approximate duration: 2 hours and 20 minutes

Music of:
Joaquín Gaztambide
Text by:
Luis Olona

World première at Teatro de la Zarzuela, Madrid, 20th December 1958

Production by Teatro de la Zarzuela (2000)

Premiered at this same theatre in 1858, it was a great success and performed on innumerable occasions. After a long forgotten period, Emilio Sagi recovered it in 2000 with an amusing theatrical production that is put on again this season. Based on an ópera-comique by Scribe and Auber — such as Los diamantes de la corona by Camprodón and Barbieri—, El Juramento transfers its action to 1710, during the reign of Felipe V in Spain, a frequent resource in such adaptations. An excellent opportunity to check the dramatic work of Olona and musical by Gaztambide, both scarcely known.

SYNOPSIS
