Zarzuela in two acts

Approximate duration: 2 hours and 40 minutes (with an interval)

Zarzuela in two acts by Ramón de la Cruz
Music by LUIGI BOCCHERINI
Worldpremiered at Palacio de Faustina Téllez Girón, condesa-duquesa de Benavente in Madrid, January 3, 1787
Production of the Fundación Caja Madrid and the Teatro Español (2009) / Teatro de la Zarzuela (2015)

With the revival of this Neoclassical Zarzuela, the Teatro de la Zarzuela has programmed this piece by Luigi Boccherini and Ramón de la Cruz for the first time. Comprising two acts, it was a commission for the musician from Lucca by the mother of his sponsor, Faustina Téllez Girón, Countess-Duchess of Benavente. The present production, directed by Mario Gas and Andrea Marcon, with beautiful and effective scenery by Juan Sanz and Miguel Ángel Coso, and costumes designed by Antonio Belart, allows for a better understanding of the nature of bourgeois musical theatre at the end of the 18th century.
