La dogaresa
Zarzuela in two acts by Antonio López Monís
Music by RAFAEL MILLÁN
Worldpremiered at Teatro Tívoli in Barcelona, September 17, 1920

La dogaresa, by the experienced Rafael Millán, opened at the Teatro Tívoli of Barcelona on September 17, 1920; it is one of his most important compositions due to its theatrical moments, the contrasts between drama and humor, its successful group scenes and the variety of musical resources. The text of Antonio López Monís sets the piece in a legendary and romantic Venice at the famous Ducal Palace on the Plaza de San Marcos. As well, there are definite references to Italian repertory: I due Foscari and Rigoletto.
