La marchenera
Zarzuela in three acts by Ricardo González del Toro and Fernando Luque
Music by FEDERICO MORENO TORROBA
Worldpremiered at Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, April 7, 1928

A young Federico Moreno Torroba premièred La marchenera at the Teatro de la Zarzuela of Madrid on April 7, 1928; it is a contemporary score full of good theatrical music and folk scenes which appeal to the audience. The text was largely written by Ricardo González del Toro although it was begun by Fernando Luque. It paints a folkloric picture of an idealized Marchena, in the province of Seville, with an undercurrent of a revolutionary outbreak.
