Zarzuela in three acts

Approximate duration: 3 hours (with an interval)

Zarzuela in three acts by Luis Olona
Music by FRANCISCO ASENJO BARBIERI
Worldpremiered at Teatro del Circo in Madrid, the December 24, 1853
First recovery since its premiere
New production of Teatro de la Zarzuela

16th century Venice is the setting for a story of masquerade, conspiracy and treason where scenes of intense romantic drama combine with scintillating sainete situations. In the background there is a political undertone of the periodic battles between Venetians and Turks.
This Barbieri rarity definitely has its second chance now. Conductor Cristóbal Soler leads a production by Paco Mir, who has made “an exciting spectacle of the 21st century”.
