Lyric

La del manojo de rosas

The Girl with the Roses

Sainete lírico en dos actos

Music by PABLO SOROZÁBAL
Libretto by Francisco Ramos de Castro and Anselmo Cuadrado Carreño
Production of Teatro de la Zarzuela (1990)

The Teatro de la Zarzuela’s The Girl with the Roses, its most iconic and popular production, is celebrating its 30th birthday. The production’s premiere, in September 1990, was very well received by both audiences and the critics, and this has continued to be the case over these three decades. Several generations of singers, performers, technicians and audiences have taken part in or enjoyed what is now Pablo Sorozábal’s best known work, and also the work that has linked him in a special way to these precincts. The director of this production, Emilio Sagi, has executed one of the best pieces of work from his long and fruitful career. In all of these years he has taken the production to a further eleven stages in Spain — Valencia, Málaga, Oviedo, Bilbao, Santander, Barcelona, Seville, San Sebastián, Valladolid, Santiago, Pamplona — as well as to two other European capitals — Rome and Paris — and has always received acclaim from audience and critics alike.
